Chelsea Piers Project

Over the course of the program, hundreds of children in schools, after-school programs, and pediatric care facilities in the Greater New York City area joined together to artistically transform over 25,000 square feet of Chelsea Piers, one of the premier recreational and cultural sites in the city. The Chelsea Piers Project has transformed the following four central locations in and around the entertainment complex of Chelsea Piers in NYC with bright inspirational colors and designs:

WestsideWest-Side Highway Views: West Side Highway motorists will enjoy a panoramic vista of three 3,200 square-foot street front panels on the side of the main Chelsea Piers complex, decked out in contemporary, eye-catching urban designs.

History WallModern History: Known as the “History Wall” for its 15 large photographs of memorable moments in Chelsea Piers and New York history that have traditionally graced its walls, the entire walkway near Pier 62 has been temporarily redesigned – for the first time – with 15, 81 square-foot panels of artwork in modern shapes and colors that represent the spirit of young New Yorkers. >> View Slideshow

Peer“Peer” Park: Pier Park, at the end of Pier 62, now has an even more stunning view: a 1,600 square-foot area of the park grounds has been hand-painted by local kids. Visitors standing “on location” can see sweeping views of the Hudson River, the Statue of Liberty and the nearby vibrantly painted Tugboat. >> View Slideshow

TugboatThe Tugboat: Parked between Piers 61 and 62, in plain sight of visitors entering Chelsea Piers from the North, is a stunning, fully-operational tugboat that has been engulfed in an 8,000 square-foot canvas of breath-taking pantones and shapes painted by kids in the program.
