About the Project

For more than a year, nearly a thousand youth from schools, pediatric care facilities, and after-school programs in the Greater New York City area collaborated to create the Ameriquest Chelsea Piers Project exhibited through the Fall of 2006. The Ameriquest Chelsea Piers Project is a continuation of the partnership between Portraits of Hope and Ameriquest Mortgage Company.

Over the course of the program, hundreds of children in schools, after-school programs, and pediatric care facilities in the Greater New York City area joined together to artistically transform over 25,000 square feet of Chelsea Piers, one of the premier recreational and cultural sites in the city.

Together these youth engaged in an educational experience emphasizing achievement and underscoring the role of teamwork in addressing both personal and societal goals. By participating in the project, children expressed their views about a variety of social themes through written, visual, and oral presentations.

The children’s vibrant, hand-painted artistic works are featured in four central areas in and around Chelsea Piers, including the Modern History Wall, the Peer Park Grounds, the West Side Highway, and a 108 foot long historical Tugboat.
